How long do extensions stay in?
How long do extensions last?
The attachment and the lifespan of the hair are two different things.
With proper care, the hair itself can last around 1 to 1.5 years. Meanwhile, wefts, Genius wefts and tape-ins need to be moved up every 6 to 8 weeks.
When do extensions need to be moved up?
Your own hair keeps growing. As a result, the attachment gradually moves down.
As a general guideline:
- Clip-ins: remove every evening
- Wefts: move up every 6 to 8 weeks
- Genius wefts: move up every 6 to 8 weeks
- Tape-ins: move up every 6 to 8 weeks
The exact timing depends on how quickly your hair grows and how the extensions were applied.
How long does the hair last?
With proper care, our hair can stay beautiful for 1 to 1.5 years. The extensions can be reapplied several times during this period.
How long they last depends on:
- How often you wear the extensions
- How often you wash them
- How much heat you use
- Which hair care products you use
- Whether you have them moved up on time
Handle your extensions gently, and they’ll stay soft, shiny and natural-looking for longer.
What happens if you wait too long?
If the attachment grows too far down, it may become visible, start to slip or pull on your own hair.
That’s why you should have your extensions checked and moved up every 6 to 8 weeks. This keeps them comfortable and protects your natural hair.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have the same extensions reapplied?
Yes. If the hair is still in good condition and well cared for, we can reapply the same extensions.
Can I sleep with extensions?
Yes, with wefts, Genius wefts and tape-ins. Remove clip-ins before bed. Wear your hair in a loose braid at night to prevent tangles.
Can I swim with extensions?
It’s best not to. Chlorine and salt water can dry out the hair and damage the attachment. If you do go swimming, rinse your hair straight afterwards with lukewarm water.
